Scholarly debate on the media coverage of events, different topics, situations and problems of the society, constitutes one of the most fertile fields of study on the effects of media reporting. In general, the debate on the effects on the public opinion of media’s coverage of various events derives from the concept that the media possess the power to influence public opinion, guide and steer public attitudes and behaviors. However, this discussion is not limited only to studies and research on the professional and ethical standards of journalists, or on factors that could influence media editorial policies.
