Prompted by the realisation behind the necessity of countering the ‘genocide ideology’ that still permeates Rwanda today, Jean Paul Samputu set up the Forgiveness Campaign following his personal experiences as a Tutsi that has forgiven his family’s killer. The overall aim is to empower youth and future leaders through education and raising awareness of the need for forgiveness as a step to reconciliation in order to avoid any future genocide in Rwanda, and elsewhere.
